a story of slavery

I am floored at how often I get to work on projects in which I believe wholeheartedly. The Whitney Plantation project came from a local Denver woman who saw some of my Vela designs. She is from Louisiana. Her father bought the plantation years ago with the dream of making it an homage to slave children. The site has commissioned, life-size bronze statues standing hauntingly across the grounds. The Field of Angels lists the names of all known children who died, frequently using only first name. My client sent me pictures for inspiration and I had chills as I looked through them. I love that I can be a part of such an important place.

The last design is what they liked best.

am finishing up my branding for Modlux Denver. Have you ever met with a client that already had all of her colors picked out? Or three main words to describe her the look that she wanted? It is a dream! Elysia and her husband are a team. They create, revamp and sell the loveliest homes all over Denver.

Elysia chose the above design. Below are the extra designs.

I am working on the website now ... link coming soon.

prenatal vitamin ads

I recently had the opportunity to work with some fantastic people in Chicago on ads for prenatal vitamins. In the first briefing, I told them that the job was custom fit for me. They wanted to see vintage, modern and storybook style layouts. The art director was so organized, with mood boards and color choices. It was so much fun! bayer prenatal stork 2 v3

Above is the final ad that the client chose. You can see the other vintage and modern layouts below.

the wine goddess

While in Chicago, T and I worked with Rick. Within the first few weeks of our job, he announced that I needed to be friends with his wife. And he was right. The first time I met Diana Hamann she compared our wine to Dolly Parton. She is hysterical, real and a great mom. She is also an incredible expert on wine. After working in for wine.com she ventured out on her own, working as a sommelier and teacher in Chicago. She opened The WIne Goddess in Evanston, IL in late 2012. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to revamp her logo. wg for blog

I loved the image of Venus as the goddess, but did not love that it begged to always be in the upper left hand corner. Below was my original presentation to Diana.

The new round "seal" can be placed anywhere. And the type works well with so many of their materials.

We miss seeing the Hamanns, but are so thankful for that fateful introduction. And if you are ever in Chicago, you MUST stop by the store. If you are worried about your kids being bored, there is a train table to keep them occupied while you imbibe.

wire spool dining table

wire spool dining table - jenn goodrich design T loves circular tables. There is something about the equality of it all ... that conversation flows among everyone, not just between those who share sides. In Chicago, we purchased this 3/4 inch piece of circular glass (the diameter is 5'). I wish that I could say it was cheap, but I remember it being around $400. It is burly, though. Many kids have stood on it (without permission, of course). It has scratches of character. And I HAVE to wash the underside ... something I would otherwise ignore! We have had many bases - galvanized sawhorses, painted sawhorses, a twig table. Most recently we made the base out of an old wire spool that I got for free from a local utility company. We painted it grey (Benjamin Moore dark primer, actually). Then added quilting to the top and staple gunned leftover suzani fabric. And I can easily switch it up on a whim!

art prints and wedding invitations

A couple of years ago I went crazy for Minted. I entered every contest and waited with baited breath for the voting results. I won a wedding invite challenge for my Vintage Bird Invitation, which I still absolutely love. But I have many many designs that did not make it. I am spring cleaning my hard drive and have decided to throw my favorite wedding invites and art prints up on my Etsy site. Here are just a few. I customize the invitations for each buyer so they can print at home. The art prints are instant downloads! explore-11x17 OK-11x17 minted-wigwam-3

vela adventures

I have been so excited to share this work! A couple of moms from our elementary school have an amazing business called Vela Adventures. The two ladies were jealous of all of the fun things their kids got to do after school and at camps (ropes courses, archery, trampolines, snow shoeing, hiking, rock climbing, zip lining, etc.) so they decided to create a place that women could easily do all of those things. Their outings have been so well received that they have been featured twice on our local news. The actual word "vela" means sail.  It is a constellation in the ship Argo from Greek mythology. They are giving women the sails they need to be spontaneous, fun and adventurous!

I had the privilege to create a new brand look for Vela. Their existing logo was fine, but they wanted it to be a bit more personalized. The first four looks are what were presented. They went with the first (it was close to their old logo) but changed the colors. You can see a few materials that we created after the logo was landed on. Next up ... their website!

kojo designs

kojo rejects My friend Kirsten is so ridiculously talented. Every party she throws is an incredible "Martha Stewart" experience. From the drink bar to the party favors to the amazing decor, it always look beautiful. Kirsten and her sister run the blog Kojo Designs. I am always so blown away with their expertise on cooking and sewing and everything crafty! Two years ago they asked me to redesign their look. Above are the first four logos. The top brown hexagon below was also presented. They brilliantly combined elements from a few to make an even better brand look. If any of you know the blog world, it is always changing (much like the look of my blog) so they have a new beautiful look since then. I love working for people I love and admire!

fabriKate

I am having so much fun going through the past two years work. Our son's first friend in Kindergarten was Sophia. She has continued to be a sweet supporter of D while he navigates the social world of elementary school. That is not always an easy task! Sophia's mom, Katie, is an amazingly talented seamstress and has a great eye for cool clothes (all of which she finds second-hand). The amount of Oilily in their house is to die for! Katie asked me to help her with her brand, fabriKate. These are the option we came up with ... fabrikate-logo-page

blowing kisses valentine print

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Thanks to Pinterest, it seems like every holiday is now full of "printables". This is my first venture into this world. I am not sure how I feel about it, but I am happy to make my little holiday girl happy! M wanted to give bubble gum and Hershey's kisses. And she wanted to say "blow you a kiss". We were a bit skeptical about the first two words of that phrase, so we rearranged it to "blowing kisses your way". I love how it turned out!

pure bread shop

PUREBREAD LOGOS for blog We had some sweet friends move away over the summer. They have been greatly missed by all of us. Carrie had a bakery out of her home that made the most delicious bread. The Hawaiian Sweet Rolls were incredible! Tom and I created the name and logo for her company. Another name that Tom came up with (that we both loved) was "The Other Bread Winner". But we all agreed that PureBread fit Carrie and her family. They chose the upper right design. My fav too! It looks like they are still up and running in Liberty, MO. It may be well worth a road trip!

the great indoors

Print Our five year old LIVES for holidays. She often asks if we can join all religions so that we can share their celebrations. Her birthday is the be-all end-all of yearly parties. I dropped the ball BIG time last year and had a small gathering of friends with very little hoopla. So this year we had to make up lost ground. She chose a camping party, which can be difficult in the middle of November. The Great Indoors was the theme. Our fireplace became the campfire to roast s'mores. We made a teepee out of a drop cloth. Michael's had animal masks to decorate. And bead necklaces were a favorite craft. The favors were firefly jars ... mason jars with small dots of glow-in-the-dark paint.

After all the guests left, M said "Mom, what do we do now that my birthday is over?". Start planning for next year. I should actually start planning her wedding. Visit here to see my prep board for the birthday.
